Year 5 of Let's pretend I actually watch shows and don't fall miserably behind on everything (but last year I actually did a remarkable job of seeing nearly every new show although 75% of them were cancelled. lol :( ) ( 2010 - 2011 - 2012 - 2013 )

Codes: BOLD (Excited for) ITALICS (Wishful Thinking)

SUNDAY
  • 730PM Bob's Burgers S5, FOX (Currently watching S3)
  • 8PM Once Upon a Time S4, ABC (Haven't seen past 1x06)
  • 830PM Brooklyn Nine-Nine S2, FOX (All caught up. Weird move to Sunday though.)
  • 10PM CSI S15, CBS (Legacy Show. The finale was uninspired.)
MONDAY
  • 8PM Gotham S1, FOX (Curious and nervous to see how the mythology gets interpreted.)
  • 9PM Sleepy Hollow S2, FOX (Haven't watched but plan to catch up shortly)
TUESDAY
  • 8PM NCIS S12, CBS (Legacy show. Revitalized with the Bishop addition. Needed some young blood.)
  • 8PM The Flash S1, CW (Not a fan of the suit but hopeful for the series. Can't wait.)
  • 9PM Marvel's Agents of SHIELD S2, ABC (Was an enjoyable show, can't think of an episode that I didn't care for. Maybe Ward's past?)
  • 9PM NCIS: New Orleans S1, CBS (Spinoff. Scott Bakula. Will give the first season a try.)
  • 9PM New Girl S4, FOX (The show may have hit its peak in S2. With Coach's return, the show feels spread thin with too many characters.)
  • 10PM Forever S1, ABC (Wasn't expecting to watch this show but the previews caught me. Seems like an immortal Sherlock Holmes?)
WEDNESDAY
  • 8PM Arrow S3, CW (Almost done with S1, will probably catch up before Thanksgiving?)
THURSDAY
  • 8PM Bones S10, FOX (This show is starting to get a bit of the whole lather, rinse & repeat repetitiveness to it. Still not fond of domestic Booth/Bones)
  • 9PM Reign S2, CW (This show puzzles me. I hated the pilot but gifs and posts on tumblr make me want to give it another chance. Maybe.)
  • 10PM Elementary S3, CBS (Still a solid show that more people should watch.)
  • 10PM How to Get Away With Murder S1, ABC (The damn tv preview is catchy as hell. I don't know if i want to try it or not.)
FRIDAY
  • 9PM Hawaii Five-0 S5, CBS (Legacy show. I was ready to give up last year but then it sucked me back in somehow.)
  • 10PM Constantine S1, NBC (Curious to see how this goes. Never read the comic or watched the movie. Will give it a chance though.)

MID-SEASON
  • Galavant S1, ABC (The preview online was hilarious. Hope the show is as fun as that.)
  • Agent Carter S1, ABC (I enjoyed the character in the films, will see how it goes on TV.)
  • Hart of Dixie S4, CW (Onto S2 in my catchup. Really liked Season 1, reminded me of oldschool WB shows.)
  • iZombie S1, CW (I never read the comic but I really like the premise. Could be fun.)

Codes: BOLD (Excited for) ITALICS (Wishful Thinking)

SUNDAY
8PM Once Upon a Time S3, ABC (Haven't seen past 1x06)
MONDAY
8PM Bones S9, FOX (Mostly a legacy show. Barely pay attention to it since they put Booth/Brennan together)
8PM Hart of Dixie S3, CW (Haven't seen past middle of S1)
9PM Beauty and the Beast S2, CW (Haven't watched an ep)
TUESDAY
8PM NCIS S11, CBS (Legacy show. No rewatch value anymore.)
8PM Marvel's Agents of SHIELD S1, ABC (Highly skeptical of quality beyond Whedon pilot. Think the whole MCU is overvalued but will try it out.)
830PM Brooklyn Nine-Nine S1, FOX (Trying it for friends)
9PM New Girl S3, FOX (Catching up. Almost done with S1)
WEDNESDAY
8PM Arrow S2, CW (Haven't watched an ep)
8PM Revolution S2, NBC (Watched half of an ep once)
830PM Back in the Game S1, ABC (Meant to try this for Maggie Lawson. No other real interest otherwise)
9PM The Tomorrow People S1, CW (Was this on yet? I was excited for this but haven't paid attention to when it debuts)
10PM CSI S14, CBS (Legacy Show. The premiere was HORRIBLE. Danson/Shue gave the show a bump the last two seasons but now the show is feeling stale again)
THURSDAY
8PM Once Upon a Time in Wonderland S1, ABC (Since this is a spinoff I think I can just jump right on. So I might do that)
8PM The Vampire Diaries S5, CW (Have never watched an ep)
9PM The Crazy Ones S1, CBS (Robin Williams + sitcom + Sarah Michelle Gellar = Sign me up)
930PM The Michael J Fox Show S1, NBC (Michael J Fox. Period. Exclamation point.)
10PM Elementary S2, CBS (My fave new show from last season.)
FRIDAY
9PM Hawaii Five-0 S4, CBS (Legacy show. Lost interest during the last season. Now it's on Friday to die eventually)
9PM Grimm S3, NBC (Haven't seen an ep)
10PM Dracula S1, NBC (Can't wait for this! This is my most anticipated Fall show. Hope it succeeds like Elementary did last year for me.)

It took me a few weeks to get around to this but seeing [livejournal.com profile] htbthomas post her own sched then reminded me that I had not done it yet and now as I prepped for this I only now realize that this is my third year doing it. (2011 - 2010).

Comparing to previous years I am being much more conservative/realistic about my TV time. I fell behind on a lot of shows last year (including all the S2 shows I've listed with Maybes) and wasted time on freshman shows that were inevitably cancelled. That said, the maybe shows I've listed here I really enjoyed what I did see of them and would like to catch up on them if I can.

A few new shows made it. I enjoyed the pilot of NBC's Revolution but Mondays are a bad day for me so I will probably have to get the episodes and watch it later in the week. CBS's Vegas won me over when I didn't even want to give it a chance because of Dennis Quaid, such a great actor. I watched Elementary for curiosity and being a big Holmes fan and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the dynamic between Miller & Liu. I've also put the CW's Arrow & Beauty and the Beast on here more for supporting a) comic book property and b) Kristin Kreuk.

While I enjoyed Justin Hartley's portrayal of Green Arrow on Smallville for the most part, I really felt like the character got shackled especially after S8 so I'm looking forward to this next interpretation. And while I wish Kristin luck with the new show, the fact that CW put the show right against Glee which is probably the same demographic they're going for ... the future doesn't seem bright for B&B, a show that already has a unique premise that is hard to get over in a TV way.

Is there anything more annoying than trying to make a good purchase when it comes to an item you aren't an expert in or really care about all that much? That's how I feel right now when I'm looking at buying a new printer.

My old printer (ancient HP DeskJet) died about a week ago and I'm making due without one right now but I know I have to buckle down and commit to a model sooner than later so I thought I'd reach out and see if someone can swing me one way or the other.

I'm looking at inkjets around the $100 range and have narrowed it down to Epson XP-400 AiO Wireless Printer or Canon PIXMA MG4220 Wireless Printer.  Anyone have experience with Epson or Canon printers or have a different suggestion/recommendation?

I've been looking at reviews on Amazon, Cnet & PC Mag and honestly it's frustrating how often the reviews are pretty much complete opposites with no consensus.

One of the video podcasts I subscribe to occasionally do a game involving the website Flickchart, where you basically rank the movies you've seen to create your own personal movie rankings according to your choices. I finally decided to join the site myself and am quickly finding myself addicted so I thought I would share the site here too.

Basically you are given two movies and options like if you haven't seen one, or both to replace them with new selections and then you choose which of the two you like more/think is better (however you make choices). Then over a period of time the top 20 bar fills up on the left side of the page and as you make more and more decisions you can use filters to focus your choices, either on the list have so far, or genres, by actor/date, etc.

You can see my top 20 so far after only about 100 random movies ranked. I'm sure a few of those will fall out over time after I do more and refine the list. Have fun! I know much of my spare time will be wasted here.

One of my desktops from April:

This was a kick-ass Stephanie Brown Batgirl cosplay done by one of the dangerousladies girls( I believe Jenn who also does a great Supergirl) who do some awesome cosplay.

I didn't do it this month but as I was changing wallpapers for May I got to thinking about uploading a folder that would just contain all the wallpapers I use (or their original images aka before i resize/crop for my dimensions) for anyone to dl if they are interested.

DCUO

emeraldstag: Sailor Moon's Usagi & Luna (dc)
While I'm on a gaming topic, I thought I'd mention that I noticed two weeks ago that sometime over the last few months DC's MMORPG, DCU Online has gone free-to-play, meaning you just download the game (18GB) and then you are off playing on your PC.

Anyway, being the big DC fan that I am I've been interested in playing it since it was announced years ago and Jim Lee pretty much stopped doing interiors for a year or two just to work on the designs of the game and by far the artwork of the game is FANTASTIC.  The presentation for the game, with all the voices they chose and the believable storyline created to legitimize why there would be all of a sudden a bunch of new heroes in the DC world, it was a fun intro to watch.

There was plenty of customization options in the character creator, and like any game with a creator I ended up taking a good hour plus to create my hero, Heraldic Titan.  I've only gotten through the first bit of the game but I'm having a good time with it.  I'm not really a PC gamer, growing up around consoles and outside of school not interacting with a computer till my teens so I do get a bit of that repetitive tedious feeling when I'm having to type keys and then somehow control the mouse with only two hands... I really want a controller in my hand and I think if I had purchased the game and had a subscription to it I would have to get a controller for me to really enjoy the game the most.

That said I am interested in continuing the story and interacting with the DC heroes. And maybe if I enjoy this enough it will give me enough reason to try the Star Wars MMO The Old Republic.

I realized it has been a year since I did this last time so I thought I'd do it again and refresh myself with what I have to look forward to this TV season.

There's some shows not on this list like The Walking Dead S2 or Merlin S4 but that's because they weren't on the grids and I'm not sure when they go on.  Wednesdays look to be my only light day, Sundays, Mondays & Thursdays are new show heavy so they could end up light if none catch me. I'd like to eventually catch up on The Vampire Dairies & Community much like I've been catching up on Glee this last month, maybe by Jan I'll be up to date on at least one of them.  Still in denial that there is no Smallville to watch, even with my dislike of some of the story choices over the last few seasons to not have those characters & cast on my tv feels wrong.

The month is almost over and I hadn't done a new month post yet! Inconceivable! Above was my desktop for June to go with the release of the new Green Lantern movie (which I still haven't seen) but anyway this one person I think on DeviantArt made a bunch of these lantern wallpapers with all of the colors and their mottos on it and they all are pretty cool.

On the writing front (and the main reason I actually made this post) is that it's that time of year again, PORN BATTLE XII is in progress! This week (through Friday) is prompt submission time and then the entries start getting posted on Sunday July 31 - Sunday Aug 7. I've been writing sporadically over the last two months (mostly whenever [livejournal.com profile] htbthomas needs a writing buddy) but I do try to participate in PB every time it comes around so I hope especially with a lighter month of work ahead of me that PB kicks off a very productive few weeks of writing for me. Several stories are crying for updates and I hear them!

So whether we like it or not the end is coming and on Wednesday and Thursday, were the London photocall and premiere for Deathly Hallows Part 2. And it's just so interesting to see the pictures and how time has passed. 10 years. It's strange but Smallville just ended in May and now comes Harry Potter and both started in late 2001 and ending in Summer 2011. Strange how two of my fandoms line up so perfectly like that.

This was the photocall and OMG its crazy to see the kids now. If they were American actors I'm sure they'd have been snatched up for a CW show they look so great. XD

And from the premiere that was shown live on Youtube which was AMAZING. And the speeches were so emotional, I was so happy to catch that part live.

Also there were some great moments caught on video:

Here are the speeches from the end of the premiere.

And after the photocall there was also a press conference where this great question was asked for the cast to give their character's favorite line. Only wish Dan had been there to find out what his was.

That Power Girl art was my desktop wallpaper in May! It's been awhile since I last had something comic related on my main desktop and this PG art I found either on DA originally or through Tumblr first but it's a great piece and my wall is only a bit of it. PG is one of my favorite underused comic book characters and I absolutely loved Palmiotti, Gray and Amanda Conner's run of her solo title. I can't stand Winick's alterations despite the pretty art and have stayed on only for the Basri art.

I promise May is my last dry writing month for awhile. This summer I'm going to be doubling down and that includes writing some fic. This summer's porn battle is a little later than usual coming in early August, so that gives me two good months to concentrate on some of my current ideas before I write some purely smut pieces for that gathering. WRITING TOTAL: 0 words

It's June and that means ... IT'S MY BIRTHDAY MONTH. WOO. I honestly don't know how this came so quickly. Using TV as a time reference since it's a solid part of my daily life, I can practically remember early episodes from this last season airing in October that feel like they were on just a few weeks or so ago instead of 8 months ago. But I do not remember much if anything about my birthday last year and what surrounded it so maybe it has been a year already. Anyway, I am not alone in having a birthday this month and I share it with: [livejournal.com profile] boywonder_iii (2nd), [livejournal.com profile] athena606 (6th) & [livejournal.com profile] copper_season (16th). Hope you all have as fantastic time celebrating your birthday as I hope to do. ♥

One of the reasons I love twitter is how many different directions my interest can take in a given month and my FollowFriday tweet for this month is a perfect example of this because about 80% of the people I was most active with are different from last month and that happens more often than not and something I've noticed since I started posting this on here.
emeraldstag: Sailor Moon's Usagi & Luna (actress)
So I finally saw Thor this morning and wow! I'll write a lengthy review later but I will say now that it was really fun and much better than I expected.

Does anyone use Sidereel? They seem to have a programmable calendar to follow your TV shows that makes me think of the pogdesign calendar that I use for this purpose but it also has a phone app (iphone only right now so I haven't jumped on and tried it yet) that seems like a handy thing to have on the go.

I thought this was a pretty neat site for those looking for a way to archive your tweets and have them displayed in a neat timeline. I give you Memolane (short for Memory lane I imagine) where besides twitter or facebook you can even connect photo sites, video sites, social check-in sites and rss feeds to have displayed for your visual needs. The only downside on the twitter part is that it seems to have the same problem all of these sites has is the limit twitter puts to the last 3,000 tweets you've done from the moment you first connect your account.

I don't know if I've asked this before on here but has anyone tried purchasing refurbished technology? I've always steered away from it and preferred to just go new but lately I've been having thoughts that anything that was wrong with the tech would be fixed before they sell it and most of the time they come with a warranty/guarantee of some kind.
emeraldstag: Sailor Moon's Usagi & Luna (sci-fi)

Prepping for the end of Smallville and I almost forgot to make a new month post for May. Above was my Mac's wallpaper for April, I usually try to stay away from close up shots because it almost feels like the person is staring back at you but I had not had a Superman related background since September and over a year since the last Smallville related image. Saying all that it would probably have worked for this month to celebrate the finale but I can't believe I forgot to think about that I've been so content this year with using randomization for my many desktops. Anyway, this was Erica back at the Batman Begins movie premiere nearly 6 years ago. How time flies.

April was another dry writing month which is depressing but I'll admit that my work load is starting to lighten now in May and with the Smallville finale buzz still going strong in my head I am feeling very creative-oriented of late. I hope to make up for the last two months with a solid second half of May. WRITING TOTAL: 0 words

May's sole birthday baby is my fellow gem friend, [livejournal.com profile] emerald_night (12th), who's birthday was last week. I hope you had a good time and made some worthwhile memories on your birthday! :)

And what I started last month because I just find it so fascinating and I love twitter: my twitter plug for May with an informational screencap of my #FollowFriday tweet.

PS: Expect a busier week from me on here as I catch up on things. TTFN. Tah Tah For Now!

I did it last year and had pretty good results, so I thought I'd go ahead and play the game once again this year and see how it goes.

The goal of the game is to pick the top ten grossing films in the U.S. with three extra choices to make the top ten that aren't sure things.
--Here's an overview of the rules.
--Here's a page to see the list of 2011 Summer movies (through August is applicable).
--How the Scoring Works:
Getting number 1 or number 10 dead-on gets you 13 points (each).

The rest of the scoring goes like this:
10 points for numbers 2-9 dead-on
7 points if your pick was only one spot away from where it ended up
5 points if it was two spots away
3 points if your pick is anywhere in the Top 10
1 point for each dark horse that makes it into the Top 10
The scoring is tabulated so that you get the SINGLE HIGHEST point value for each pick- that is, if you get number ten right, you don't get 13+3, you only get 13.

MY PICKS
1) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
2) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
3) Transformers: Dark of the Moon
4) Kung Fu Panda 2
5) Cars 2
6) Green Lantern
7) Thor
8) Super 8
9) Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World
10) Fast Five

DARK HORSE PICKS
The Smurfs
Cowboys & Aliens
X-Men: First Class

Something I never realized you could do in a word document was a feature to track the changes you make to your writing and it will mark up the edits and even let you leave comments to explain your thoughts on the changes.  It was always a hassle when I would have to manually mark up edits for friends when I betaed a story or two.  I can't wait to use this feature when I next get around to editing a doc again.  I am excited and yes i realize I am probably the last person to figure this out.  That happens a lot to me.

Also I am apparently completely blind about the online alternatives to text editors/word doc writers. I was shown EtherPad, which is an online word processor that does all the markup features as well as allow collaboration between multiple authors with a timeline feature that can display how the document was written in real-time.  I haven't had a situation yet where I wrote when I didn't have access to Word or Pages but before I would think only to use Google Docs and this might be a better alternative, especially if it's a collaborative project.

I am beginning to tire about my home wireless network problems.  The things I do because I finally signed up for Netflix.  So i moved the wireless router/modem to the TV so that Netflix instant could be streamed over there.  Apparently a combination of age and i assume some spill damage over the years my macbook pro's interior wifi adapter is very weak with distance, leading to several days of trying to fix my laptop only to give up and just adjust the location of the router by about a foot and now it connects.  Sometimes it'll slow and I'll have to turn off the MBP's wifi and turn it back on but it's a minor annoyance that I've been dealing with for a year or two now anyway - has nothing to do with the distance. And in the end, the xbox 360 Netflix app is ten times better than the instant queue that is through my blu-ray player.

ETA: Fell asleep in the middle of this entry. -_-

I started noticing over the last week that I think my honeymoon period with Tumblr is about over.  I'm just not getting enough interaction to want me to keep working at it.  Maybe I don't know how to tumble right, maybe I'm a boring person as displayed by my posts here, maybe I don't have the energy to properly participate on there.  I still lurk and enjoy liking posts but there's not much else to do.  And when most of my original posts, especially on my blog's tumblr is just finding art on DeviantArt and posting it there, I don't know it feels ... unsatisfying.  I feel like reducing my time there to just liking and occasionally posting and focusing more on posting here more regularly, my blog & writing.

Got the Tangled Blu-Ray and I just love that movie so much.  When a movie like that can't even get a best animated oscar nod, that is why I really don't care about award shows.  The neat thing is that it's the 50th Disney animated feature film and the special feature that has a countdown of all 50 films.  All I can think is how much I enjoyed this movie compared to How to Train Your Dragon or Toy Story 3, both that I loved as well but Tangled is just on a whole other level of fun for me.  How Tangled couldn't even win best original song against a Toy Story 3 song that I argue was not as good as songs from the first two Toy Story films.

If you follow me on Twitter you will know that I went to the Disney store last week.  I bought some mugs that were on clearance (love mugs, wish that Superman mug Chloe had on Smallville last season existed) but my best find at the store was this gigantic Bolt plush that was 60% off. He's so huggably soft.

Above was my mac's secondary monitor wallpaper, Atomic Betty. Always felt that show was underrated and under appreciated. And on my phone I had this batman wallpaper, another neat artwork I found on DeviantArt. Love that place.

Rededicated myself to writing and I got off to a good start in January. Restarted His Girl Friday and participated in Porn Battle XI which bleeded into February. Besides the Porn Battle entries that have been already posted, look forward to more HGF and maybe a completed one-shot or two this month. 2010 isn't coming to an end. *covers eyes & ears* LALALALALALALALALALA.

My November MBP's wallpaper was the "Ministry Six in the veil room" from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It is a screencap I color adjusted a long time ago and only now got around to using since Deathly Hallows premiered in the month I figured I'd go with an HP theme. And on that note for the DH premiere weekend I had this wallpaper on my Samsung Galaxy S.

November may be National Novel Writing Month, but it was just a month full of writing fail. I honestly don't know where the time went but literally every time I had free to write for NaNoWriMo, the time would pass by and I'd have nothing to show for it. The best thing to come out of the month was that I brainstormed a few new ideas worth pursuing and have a new title for my main project. I hope to return to my fanfic this month with the holidays giving me some time so we'll see. WRITING TOTAL: 142 words.

I will step away from my denial to wish a Happy Birthday to the December babies: [livejournal.com profile] bloodshed (8th), [livejournal.com profile] darthphere (12th), [livejournal.com profile] kalaylee (15th), [livejournal.com profile] blue_onion (19th) & [livejournal.com profile] corvidae9 (26th). I hope each and every one of you not only have an awesome day but a month as well, and a happy Christmas. :)

Now this is the time of year when we all like to do something nice for our friends. Some ask for addresses to send Holiday cards, but I don't because let's be honest I don't need the reality check of how little attention my posts get. Last year I think I tried writing a short fic for every friend's birthday but I ran out of steam near September so as much as I would like to I won't be writing for everyone for Christmas hell I can barely write for myself these days. So, what I'm planning to do this year for Christmas is a post where I write a short positive sentence or two to each friend on here. I haven't decided if I'll leave them anonymous to make it more fun and if I have the nerve I might even include a short personal video message to all uploaded to youtube.

Looking forward to seeing Tron and Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
