Smallville 10.1 "Lazarus"

emeraldstagFour months ago was last season's finale and the wait for the end began. 10 seasons. Time flies. There's so much to cover but I started to ramble so I left out some topics. Not the premiere I expected but a solid effort, with the last few minutes stealing BEST OF SHOW.
I love Erica, but I really miss the lighter hair and the ponytail that were so often seen in the earlier seasons. That said, I'm interested in seeing how they handle the whole she knows but he doesn't angle. They only really explored that in S4 when Chloe found out because of Alicia but that was like a lifetime ago. But, I want less of these "oops I dropped my pen let me go under the table so you can do what you need to do" scenes. That's almost as bad as the whole knock out Lois so she can't see Clark save the day.
So this is how they're handling the lack of Mack situation with Chloe. While I would have loved Allison to keep her spot in the credits, I'm just glad she's still in it, especially with the AND. I always love when they do that, and I think they're showing how much they want her on the show because they could've gone all "Special Guest Star" like Beverly Hills 90210 did with Luke Perry when he returned or not even have her in the credits like they did with Erica in S4. (Also the cast is 4 regulars and 1 semi-regular? Clark, Lois, Tess, Oliver, Chloe. THE SHRINKING CAST CONTINUES!) The whole Fate helmet was a red herring huh? Something to throw in the teasers and have fans guessing all crazy things when all she did was trade herself for Oliver and explain why she won't be a regular presence on the show for awhile.
I've had time to adjust to that and with another Beverly Hills comparison this is like Brenda leaving after S4, or even Brandon a few seasons later, the show may have been centered around them when it started but the show must go on and sometimes the actors have others ideas. For some reason I really get the feeling that Allison wants to be done with the show and is only around for however much she is because of the fans. The show runners love her and that hasn't convinced her. One thing I didn't like about the way Chloe's disappearance was done is they had her revert to the "hide the truth from Clark so he can't stop her" attitude that was big around the early of S9 and I thought we worked past that. But like I often tell people, it was convenient to the story and to explain her absence because having her alien superhero best friend easily save Oliver would really ruin further episodes. That nasty little thing we know as suspension of belief.
As much as I love Cassidy, Tess has been less than reliable and don't tell me I was the only one scared out of my mind at the thought of Tess being the one to take care of little Alex? The more i see Smallville having to use other actors to play Lex, the more I get the feeling that we won't see Rosenbaum again on Smallville. It's unfortunate especially with how anti-climactic the S7 finale was and how the latter half of S7 was rushed because of the writer's strike. Also that little Darkseid graphic was HORRIBLE and i was someone that never had a problem with Doomsday (outside of the fact DD was limited to shadowy short shots).
But what stole the show was the scene with Clark and Jonathan. When Clark said "Dad" and Jonathan turned, the tears started flowing it was so emotional to watch. Nearly 100 episodes later, and this cemented that I miss John Schneider as Jonathan Kent. Helping his dad take apart the fence while they talked, it was like 6-7 years ago all over again. I hope they have a few of these fatherly moments sprinkled in throughout the season because he is that awesome. BEST PA KENT EVER. (Also is it just me or does Tom look a little younger this season? Something during the Summer agreed with him because he looked his character's age for the first time in awhile.)
