My birthday is in 7 weeks and I am 3 lbs away from hitting the fitness goal I made last July. It's crazy to think that I've been living this new healthier lifestyle for 10 months. I remember how much of a struggle it was early on when I was adjusting to new eating habits and now it's just a way of life and I find food much more fascinating now, which might be funny but learning about serving sizes is enlightening.

Now 4 months of running on a treadmill since one came into my ownership and I've been doing about 40-45 mins of near daily cardio, in that 4 months I've comfortably cut over 4 minutes from my mile pace and I'm almost up to 4 miles a day. I'm so pumped about my progress!

Another animated property that has caught my fancy of late is Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.  Between nostalgic love of the original from my childhood, and a slight aversion to the animation style I stayed away from the show for a long while. But last month or so I happened upon a marathon of episodes and left it on in the background and started consuming episodes left and right.

I love that It doesn’t play down to the audience and I like what they’ve done with the characters and the relationships, like turning April into a teen as well as having Donatello crushing on her, Splinter being fatherly to her or the dynamic between Leo & Karai. Unfortunately there have been so many iterations over the years that it’s hard to discover fic on this newest series but I hope to find some fandom developing around the show finally.

For the last few years I’ve slowly developed a noticeable sleeping problem. Later and later I fall asleep, catching up for the short sleep on the weekends or free afternoons. I try to go to bed at a normal time, try not to workout late anymore, put on music to sooth, read in bed but lately it isn’t until light starts to breakthrough that I finally get some rest.

What was it about the night & silence that was wrecking havoc on my sleep? And then I came to a conclusion the other day. I miss the noise of nature. And this clue has been there all along. You see years back at the start of this mess, there were several trees removed from the land and there was an unintended consequence.

The nights used to be filled with the song of crickets and the hoots of owls. Now there are none. And I miss them so.

On a lighter note. Finally saw Rise of the Guardians recently and it is so much more wonderful than I thought it would be. And instantly became enamored with the Jack Frost/Tooth(iana?) ship. So adorable and they even have an awesome shipping name: Frostbite (I've also seen rainbow snowcone but that is a bit wordy).

I was telling [personal profile] djtenku  that we might be in the golden age of animated feature films right now. Sure the early to mid 90's Disney was AMAZING, but with how Disney, Pixar & Dreamworks are all cranking out solid hits lately maybe this era can rival that one. When's the last time Dreamworks had a less than stellar animated release? Maybe Bee Movie in 2007?

First on the reading front, I was answered on Tumblr that Ao3 does have a subscription feature that is an update alert system like fanfiction.net. Setting it up was easy but did make me realize I was only following one ongoing on Ao3. Most things I've read there have been one-shots/drabbles.

It would be nice of LJ/DW to have a tag tracking feature but maybe I am old school in this thought as the majority of fics I read in my fandoms are not on either of these two platforms. Maybe i'm still living in the past in looking here for things to read.

The one annoying thing about reading is you're never guaranteed of a good story every time and sometimes when you're looking for that pleasant distraction you only get more misery for company. Two stories updated and they both ended with heavy relationship drama cliffhangers leaving things in not great situations and that was horrible to read at the time. lol.

On the writing front, there is a The Walking Dead story that is itching me to be written. I've been watching the second half of S2 that I never did see and there is just something I've always been left wanting between Rick & Shane, with Lori and the baby mess. Outside of that moment in the first season that flashed back to when Rick got shot, we never really got to see them not at odds or without tension. I never thought the show would entice me to write but here we are with me thinking about it. I have a few ideas ahead of it but I might use it as a cleanser to take breaks on between stories.

Outside of that I have a chapter for an old story written but it needs to be edited and I am holding myself to having multiple chapters written before I start publishing again so that might be in the hole for awhile. I have at least two pressing story ideas ahead of it but I do hope to pick things up in this area by the end of the month.

I've been slowly wading my way through my creative sludge in my spare time but I as of yet have nothing to show for it. As a result this journal has suffered in the wake of quicker less thought needed avenues like twitter/tumblr. Mostly twitter. That said, there is a lot of fan stuff that I don't share there that I would here but it's that extra step of having to come over to DW/LJ to post where honestly I haven't cultivated new friends on for awhile. There are a few holdouts but even those post infrequently. It's mostly become a comm place for me of late, and I enjoy that still but I do miss some of the friendships here that is hard to get some of the same interaction on the more distracting platforms of twitter/tumblr.

Anyway, as a way to restart the activity on this journal I wanted to mention that besides my main tumblr account (that is more reblogs than blog posts that I put here too) I've begun a more fanfic focused tumblr which will be what I'm reading, what I'm thinking, what I'm writing, fic recs, etc on the fandoms I follow (mostly Comics, Glee, Harry Potter, Mass Effect, Merlin, Smallville but I sometimes talk about other ones that I probably won't ever write for or older ones like Star Wars. Just depends. I never thought I'd find something to challenge HP/Smallville and then I found Glee last year.) With that outlet, it will increase what I write here and hopefully energize me enough to start writing again.

Sometimes I think too much, and that keeps my creativity from coming out. More writey, less thinking.

That business out of the way, I regret not producing anything for Porn Battle. I had about 500 words down but it was the last night, hours left on the deadline, I was dead tired and it was my first real attempt at writing fic for public consumption in over a year and I just wasn't feeling it. I came to the realization that really I should have the ideas ready before PB starts, it just creeps up on me every damn year. Especially now that it's only once a year.

Also I'm probably reading way too much, cuts into my writing time badly. I was able to shut it down during Nanowrimo but now not so much.  That brings me to a frustrating moment I had this weekend while reading a fic. That moment when you are reading a great fic that you are enjoying for being original and unique but then the latest chapter out comes all the tropes/cliches that the fandom is filled with.

In this case, Harry Potter. A soul bond resulting in mind speak, instant marriage, married rooms at Hogwarts, instant adulthood and the arrival of a huge inheritance/lordship for Harry via Gringotts.  All in one chapter. Sigh.
