2008 & 2009 Fic in Review + 2010 Outlook

emeraldstagThe start of the year means looking back and creating the annual fanfic index of the previous year. I skipped this last year because I woefully produced barely any in 2008 but with a resurgence in 2009 I thought it'd only be right to include it in this post. I'm eager to see how much I ended up writing and where I can improve, and what stories I need to continue (because I will).
2008 Fanfiction (13,506 words):
The Potters & Dumbledore's Secret - Chapter 13. 5,411 words. PG. Fantasy/Adventure. Harry Potter. AU. Book 1 of the Stagverse series. The Potters survived Halloween 1981. Harry tries to deal with his first year at Hogwarts. But not everything can go smoothly, Dumbledore is hiding something at Hogwarts and a teacher seems to be after it! (STATUS: DISCONTINUED - This was the last chapter of the first fanfic I ever wrote and I regret never being able to at least finish my version of the first book but delays with getting the story beta'd were so long that I lost interest in the story. At least this pushed me to work on my writing so that I could avoid relying on someone else to check on my writing missteps.)
Valkyrie Skies - Chapter 1. 4,154 words. MA/NC-17. Drama/Action. DC Comics/Batman. AU. The loss of his mentor sent Dick Grayson running away from his calling. Now one year later, he's faced with reality and tries to make his way in a changed world. (STATUS: DISCONTINUED - Was I prophet or maybe DC is a fic reader? Before RIP, I played with the idea of Bruce dying and Dick dealing with having to take the lead. Unfortunately I was entering the phase where the current comic continuity was beginning to put a damper on my enthusiasm of writing with these characters. Thankfully the chapter actually works pretty well as a one-shot and also happens to be my first ever attempt at a smut scene and it's w/ one of my favorite ships: Dick/Babs.)
Great Power, Great Responsibility & Great Love - Chapter 1. 3,941 words. PG-13. Drama/Action. Marvel Comics/Spider-man. AU. A bridge. A villain. A damsel in distress. What happens when Peter Parker gets tired of fate screwing him over. (STATUS: HIATUS/IN PROGRESS - A Spider-Man story I am itching to get back to now that the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon has rejuvenated my interest in the character enough to ignore the OMD/BND mess the comic has. I'm determined to have another chapter out before March 31 - the 2 year anniversary of the first chapter's posting.)

Burden. 921 words. PG. Drama. Harry Potter. An innocent question can have a painful answer. A SS/PS missing moment. (When I shifted from birthday one-shots to drabbles trying to make it more possible for me to keep up with the increasing workload. Thought this was a poignant scene that I wished I had time to add more to. I usually don't deal with sadder topics so another rare try by me.)
The Usual. 100 words. PG. Slice of Life. Prompt = The Three Broomsticks. Harry Potter. Harry/Cho. (Written forhp_fanfiction's prompt of the week. Had fun glimpsing at a ship different from my OTP.)
Too Hot, Two Watch. 688 words. MA/NC-17. Naruto. Sakura/Ino. Not even the Hokage can resist Jiraiya's “research”. (First dip in the fem!slash pool and scratched my itch with writing a Naruto story, something I haven't had the focus to do more often.)
Moonlight Meeting. 599 words. PG. DC Comics/Robin. Tim/Steph. Stephanie and Tim talk things out. After Battle for the Cowl. (Steph/Tim is one of my favorite DC ships and it's a shame what they've done with that relationship. ESPECIALLY AFTER GOING THROUGH THE WHOLE TROUBLE OF REWRITING HER "DEATH".)
Top Story. 888 words. PG. Smallville. Clark/Lois. Clark broods. Lois helps. Clark smiles? Post S8 Finale. (Written before I became conflicted about Smallville's current direction. Now I find myself when wanting to write Smallville going back to the earlier seasons.)
The Godson. 708 words. PG. Harry Potter. Harry/Ginny. Teddy is the glue that brought this make-shift family together. (I'm intrigued with how Teddy affected Harry's life and this was a peek at it.)
Down the Middle. 488 words. PG. Twilight. Bella/Edward. Another game of baseball with the Cullens. (I liked the movie. Looking forward to seeing the next one on DVD. Had to write a story featuring my favorite character of the series: Alice.)
Flirting Snake. 520 words. PG. Metal Gear Solid/Metroid. Solid Snake hits on the new girl. (You don't know how much I want to finish the games both these characters star in.)
Hands. 662 words. R. Naruto. Naruto/Sakura. Sakura's livelihood is her hands when it comes to war, work, love and Naruto. (My favorite Naruto ship, one that just doesn't have enough quality stories written about it lately. I hope to return to do more one day.)
Memories. 498 words. PG. Naruto. Naruto/Sakura. He may be gone, but not forgotten. (I don't think favorably of Sasuke, but again, writing for a friend I'll make an exception.)
Award Night. 619 words. PG. Smallville. Clark/Lois. Hurricane Lois twisted her way into Clark's life and found herself with an ending she never expected, a happy one. (Nice little touching story.)
Trysts. 437 words. MA/NC-17. Harry Potter. Sirius/Bellatrix. They're secret, immoral meetings of pleasure and Sirius Black can't get enough. WARNING for Blackcest. (Nice to write a Harry Potter story not involving Harry. Probably one of the few ships I'd do a story for outside of Harry.)
Lasting Impression. 970 words. PG-13. Star Wars. Luke/Mara. The night before the trip to the Sarlacc Pit, Luke gets a visitor with a hidden agenda. AU (If there's a fandom I love that I haven't had the time to give a proper fic to would be Star Wars. Luke & Mara are my favorite ship there and I hope to bring some Star Wars fic in the new year.)
One-Shots
Friendship. 3,263 words. PG. Slice of Life. Marvel Comics/Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane. For her 16th birthday, Mary Jane receives a thoughtful gift that gets her thinking about her friends. (I had fun writing from Mary Jane's POV. Helped inspire me to try writing with a female main character more often when possible.)
Stars & Stripes. 2,472 words. R. Prompt = Dance. Smallville. Clark/Lois. Lois dances, and Clark watches. It's all Chloe's fault. (My first Smallville story and I absolutely enjoyed rewriting the scene to make it more ship-worthy. Written for Porn Battle VII.)
Whammy! 3,027 words. MA/NC-17. Prompt = Surprise. Smallville. Clark/Lana/Chloe. Chloe's surprise birthday party develops bewitching (and sweaty) results. (The first threesome I wrote, and I thought it worked well - the perfect scene to use and even use almost as a missing moment with the circumstances surrounding the characters. Had fun writing it. Written for Porn Battle VII.)

Nesting Robin. 1,931 words. MA/NC-17. Prompt = Taking care of Roy. DC Comics/Teen Titans. Dick/Dinah. When Roy gets sick, Dick comes over and helps out him and Dinah. (Written for the DCU Kissing Meme. Two of my favorite DC characters, that I hope to write together again in 2010.)
Risk & Reward. 2,242 words. PG. DC Comics/Batman. Bruce/Selina. After months of chasing Catwoman, Batman risks his world for a chance for more. (One of my most responded to stories, showing the support this ship has and that more fics should be written for it.)
Mirage. 2,395 words. PG-13. Marvel Comics/Iron Man. Tony/Steve, Tony/Maria, Tony/Pepper. Wanted and on the run, Tony Stark escapes trouble and finds paradise. Or does he? (My rare dip into the slash pool. Not my thing but the things I do for friends. ^_^ Pretty good story I came up with. Even had Stormin' Norman in it.)
Distracting. 2,018 words. PG-13. Harry Potter. Harry/Ginny. Harry's an adolescent wizard looking to spend time with his girlfriend while keeping one of his best friends company. Innocent fun ensues in the library. An HBP Missing Moment. (I find writing in missing moment scenes and trying to fit the story into canon one of the hardest things to do and why I don't do it that often. Had to finally represent the fandom and ship that started it all for me online.)
Fics
The Beastly Beauty - Chapter 1 & 2. 7,255 words. R. Drama/Romance/Friendship. Harry Potter. Harry/Ginny/Lavender. AU. The lives and relationship of Harry and Ginny Potter change when they open their home to a friend in need. (STATUS: HIATUS/IN PROGRESS - The story fell victim to my needing to step away from the Potter fandom for awhile to take a break from it and try other fandoms. Finally in the last few months I've started to dip my foot back into Potter - the latest movie being released helped that - and I'm eager to finish this story with only about 3-4 chapters remaining.)
His Girl Friday - Chapter 1 & 2. 3,598 words. PG-13. Smallville. Clark/Chloe. Chloe Sullivan is a girl in a single parent household and her closest sibling is a cousin she rarely sees but things improve immensely for Chloe when she becomes attached to her tall, dark-haired best friend who happens to be an intergalactic farm boy – but she doesn't know that .. yet. SEASON 2 AU - CHLARK (STATUS: HIATUS/IN PROGRESS - This is where I decided to go from the point of view of Chloe, and aiming for shorter chapters in an effort to get things out sooner. What befell this story was me feeling guilty of falling behind on birthday drabbles and putting the story aside until I caught up. You can see what happened there. I have the next two chapters planned and this will be a story I'll be continuing very soon.)
2010 Writing Goals:

Naboo's Champion - R. Action/Adventure. Star Wars. AU. The Queen's sovereignty on Naboo results in fate changing decisions, creating a dilemma for the two sides of the Force struggle, Sidious & Yoda. As Padmé shifts to a Senator, Anakin grows as Naboo's hero, her love interest and bodyguard. (multi-chaptered story that I'll progress through periodically. Will balance between story & PWP moments.)
Sex, Lies & Kryptonite - R. Action/Adventure. Smallville. AU. King Kal and Queen Maxima of Almerac uncover a slave trafficking ring in the nearby colony, New Krypton, that trails back to the defenseless Terran-populated planet, Earth and its small town of Smallville. (short multi-chaptered story, probably not more than 10 chapters long.)
Magical Muggle - R. Action/Adventure. Harry Potter. AU. Harry Potter lived an ordinary boring life, working at a bookshop in London while living with his aunt and uncle in Surrey. He has no idea how much danger he is in after the death of a secret keeper he didn't even know existed. When the Wizarding World enters his life again, he is forced to face a danger he defeated as a baby at the cost of his magic. Now without magic, Harry must adapt to a world needing a hero. (multi-chaptered story that will probably end up being shorter than longer. Won't completely focus on it until Beastly Beauty is done.)
Five Times Peter Parker Revealed His Identity - PG. Action/Adventure. Spectacular Spider-Man. Moments chosen from the series where he could've revealed his identity to: Aunt May, Gwen, MJ, Felicia & Liz. (one-shot, not sure when I'll write this one.)
The Orange Trail - R. Action/Adventure. Naruto. AU. An eclectic family led by two Sannin traveled for years across the lands while the ninja villages around them fought and fell into a state of war and chaos. When a wandering survivor comes upon them begging for help, they quickly realize they can't run forever – especially when the boy they raised as their own was now a powerful force that rivaled their own. (mult-chaptered fic that won't be started until a few others are completed/started. Hope to get to it.)
Canary Winds - R. Action/Romance. DC Comics/Batman. AU. Before Barbara Gordon could be shot by the Joker and quit being Batgirl, Batman goes overseas to deal with Ra's A'ghul leaving Gotham under the protection of Robin & Batgirl. Enter Black Canary returning to Gotham looking for help and it's up to Robin & Batgirl to save the day and carve a new path for their careers. (A story I came up with in 2008 but never had a chance to get to, I really want to write this and hope I get to it. Short multi-chaptered fic.)

2010 Writing Goals:
- Writing 10,000 words a month, be it fanfic or original work. I'll announce results monthly to help keep me focused. (I nearly tripled my writing total from 2008 to 2009, and having posted nearly 50k written words in 2009 and knowing I had droughts throughout, I think aiming for at least double that will be a possible goal to reach.)
- Participate in some challenges. (I did that at the beginning of 2009 when I had time and I enjoyed doing it. With dropping birthday drabbles, this will give me an avenue to write other fandoms/ships that aren't my main focus.)
- Continue His Girl Friday.
- Complete Beastly Beauty.
- Continue & Complete Great Power, Great Responsibility & Great Love.
- Write my original story that I've been tinkering with for probably 3 years now.
