emeraldstag: Sailor Moon's Usagi & Luna (chloe sullivan)

I am so behind you don't even know. And the last 120 hours haven't helped. But I did see the Smallville mid-season finale on Friday and I was not impressed.

The redeeming aspect of this final season has been the push to have returning characters guest star in almost every episode. This episode's announced guest stars in the synopsis were Hawkman and Stargirl but I thought it was a disservice to Stargirl with how little she was used in the episode. She made the save when the public attacked Oliver, was at the engagement party, the shutdown of Watchtower (this is what the umpteenth time that's happened?) and the "funeral". Outside of the lynch mob scene she was pretty much background, unlike Hawkman/Carter who had a pretty sizable role in the episode.

I was surprised to see a quick moment of Black Canary on one of the Watchtower screens and then in the funeral. I really haven't liked the disconnect between Canary and Oliver, I was hoping they'd have a little moment (which is funny because I can't stand the two together in the comics) during the funeral maybe hand on his shoulder but nope. Apparently next episode is where she is listed as a featured guest star so maybe we'll get something then EXCEPT Chloe officially returns as well in that episode so ...

It was fantastic to see AMack back as Chloe, even if it was only in a Flashback ... Immediately the show felt more like itself and the hole that has been in the show but cleverly hidden was filled again. And for it to be a Chlo-Lo scene only made it better (although Chlark would have been just as good) but I am starting to get a little tired with the anvils they keep throwing this season regarding how epic Clois is. I get that Clois is endgame but fast forward has been hit and I don't take kindly to how others are run over in the refashioning/rewriting the show has done to present Lois and the Clois relationship. Having Chloe say that the whole relationship with Lana was not fated like the one with Lois is was a bit much. HOW ABOUT THE WHOLE SHE ABSORBED KRYPTONITE AS TO WHY IT DIDN'T WORK WITH CLARK. Every episode this season has been about how great Clois is, why they should be together, the other heroes giving dating advice ... It's all a bit much.

I did not like one bit the ease with how the villainous military was able to connect the dots with everyone working together, it was ridiculous as was the idea that Oliver or Tess wouldn't have alarms set up to alert them to the fact their offices were being ransacked. I was also disappointed with the continual use of this dorky Cat Grant. I was really hoping she would be a one-time character but she continues to show up and I can't stand her characterization at all. And Lois' short speech convincing Cat was even worse. She's going to change her life values or at least consider something else that quickly? I do not think so. I won't even get into the part where apparently Lois while being held hostage is allowed to freely roam through Tess' office unsupervised to find that escape tunnel.

Lastly, I didn't really get into this in "Patriot" because I didn't realize the guy was supposed to be Slade Wilson until the very end scene where the base blew up but the casting of Slade was terrible as is the way he's being used. Just horrible. And his metal eye covering is tackier than just the simple eyepatch Slade has in the comics. I think instead of going for an older man that is very unbelievable when shown in action, they should have chosen a silver fox actor that happened to grey earlier than most. Slade Wilson is supposed to be an accomplished fighter, and I don't get that from the actor they chose no matter what moves they give him. It's ridiculous to watch.
