Smallville 10.10 "Luthor"
Dec. 3rd, 2010 11:48 pmLike many if not all of the episodes so far this season, it is the returning guest star that stands out the most. This might be my favorite S10 episode since Lazarus.
I really wonder if the show's creators had known that the show would go on after S7 and that Rosenbaum would leave that maybe they would have not killed of Lionel Luthor because seeing John Glover again reminded me just how much I missed his presence on the show. And how good it is to have a Luthor on the series again (Tess you don't count - you weren't good enough :P). I will add that I wasn't entirely fond of how evil they had Lionel, after his last few seasons on the show he was like a reformed man, but his wit was still there and that last scene with him was so FANTASTIC that I have to wonder if this move was done as a backup plan just in case their appeals to Rosenbaum don't work and they don't have a Lex for the finale.
The one thing that always bums me about when Smallville goes to alternate worlds/dimensions/futures/pasts, is that they are unable to bring back the other actors who should still be around in those other times and instead there is always some excuse to explain the disappearance - this one being Clark killed Lex.
The other FANTASTIC part of this episode was the emergence of CLESS!!! I had thought we would never see that ship take off on the show since S10 is a Clois gushfest, but I always pointed to 8.16 "Turbulence" as a show that really displayed the potential of the chemistry those two had together. If you can ignore what a bastard Clark Luthor was, the Cless was pretty hot. I wish i had time to write a fic featuring them, maybe a one-shot will have to do if I can manage.
The Clois "she's the only one who can see right through me and know me" angle really was a bit eyeroll worthy. And maybe it's the first few seasons of Lois that has me so biased but I really don't like Erica with dark hair so the "Earth-2 Lois" I was not a fan of.
Also one thing about next episode ... I didn't get to mention it when he first appeared in "Patriot" but I REALLY don't like the casting of Slade aka Deathstroke the Terminator. They should have someone similar to that military villain in Avatar than the guy they have.
