emeraldstag: Sailor Moon's Usagi & Luna (text)

It has been about four months since I did one of these single episode commentaries that I almost forgot I did them. XD

This season is going to be interesting, only thirteen episodes and this first one really only had Chuck, Sarah, Casey and Morgan. Ellie came at the end and Mrs. Bartowski sprinkled here and there but I think the show has realized where the importance of the show lies. I won't deny that there was a definite lack of AWESOME in the episode but I'm interested in seeing how they're going to incorporate the Buy More cast now that the place is a government cover.

One thing that is definite is that Zach Levi has grown into the leading man role very well. The first two seasons of Chuck he definitely fit the everyman, slightly geeky role that the character basically was. Season three started to see him expand and carry the show on a more regular basis, and now I could easily see him becoming a big name in Hollywood when it's time to move on from Chuck.

Linda Hamilton is no Scott Bakula but I think she'll be an interesting aspect to the season as Chuck searches for mom. I'm not fond of the whole Chuck lying to Ellie so to have that start up again was worrisome. I greatly enjoyed the whole Morgan trying to start up the sexting between Chuck and Sarah and then thinking Sarah was trying to sext when she was asking for help. Anyone catch the Seinfeld reference (Chuck applying to Vandelay Industries) or the slight twist on the Rocky IV line ("I will break you.")

Dolph Lundgren was a great guest star, he can still pull that bad guy character off well. Looks like everyone made too much of a big deal about the Buy More/CIA operative that changes in every episode. Olivia Munn was forgettable in the role. Casey really took a backseat in this episode outside of his reactionary grunts to Chuck/Sarah, and I was going to mention that I was disappointed not to see anything regarding his daughter but the upcoming episodes preview seems to have taken care of that for me.
