emeraldstag: Sailor Moon's Usagi & Luna (text)

I had an extremely busy/hectic week but now that I've had a day or two to decompress I can finally post my delayed thoughts on last Monday's Chuck finale. Doesn't hurt that it's extremely hot today and I'd rather just stay inside under the ceiling fan. :)

In the three seasons of Chuck, Stephen Bartowski is responsible for my favorite episodes - the latter part of S2 - and knowing he was going to be part of the latter part of S3 I was excited to have him back. I was already making ideas that maybe he could be Team Bartowski's computer guy/Q. All because I forgot what had happened at the end of S2. Great auxiliary characters don't stick around (see Bryce Larkin). And unlike Bryce where he didn't get a proper goodbye, they really put together a great sendoff to Papa Bartowski. The flashbacks to the past when Ellie & Chuck were kids with Stephen really reinforced the familial bond and Ellie getting to find out about Chuck and her dad. No way you could get through the finale with a dry eye. I thoroughly enjoyed the discovery that Chuck actually first downloaded the intersect back when he was a kid and I can't help but think having S3 end with Bakula's narration was only perfect. I wish we had more time with Stephen, he was one of a kind.

The one thing I wasn't that fond of about the last six episodes of S3 was how Shaw truly transformed into an evil bastard. Before, during his initlal death you could rationalize his turn was with the grief caused by the CIA's betrayal to him and his wife. In his return, it felt much more petty and smug in his actions. Much more a big part of the Ring instead of just being a big part of taking down the CIA. With his return from the dead I really wish we could have seen more of Bryce Larkin.

Lastly, I think everyone was cheering for TEAM AWESOME + MORGAN as they came to the rescue of Chuck/Sarah & Casey. I had to throw out a little "uh oh" when I first noticed Awesome & Morgan were heading for the rescue in Casey's Crown Vic - talk about living dangerously! I was so happy to see Chuck using his tech abilities on a mission for the first time in ages. It takes me back to the good old days of him disarming a bomb and so forth. I miss the "STAY IN THE CAR" days. But I have to say I can't wait to see how S4 of Chuck evolves with now Momma Bartowski becoming a focus and Chuck taking over Dad's spy tasks. It's an exciting time. :D
