emeraldstag: Sailor Moon's Usagi & Luna (sci-fi)

Now with time to catch up on every series I am watching or trying to watch, I have the chance to talk about Legend of the Seeker, where I'd stayed up to date but hadn't had the opportunity to talk about the episodes. And I don't think I could've picked two drastically different episodes to group together in my discussion.

  • Zedd. I thoroughly enjoyed his return to youth in "Wizard" and Shota's misguided attempts at manipulating him backfiring on her. Naming himself Seeker, continuing to grow his legend into something impossible, falling in love with that girl only for her to betray him (which I don't blame her for since if not for him she would never have been put in that position to die) and then jumping into the breach only for Richard to pull him out. There does seem to be a propensity for Zedd to disable himself in some way or do something that might just be the wrong thing to do but overall it's fun to watch and I like the back and forth that's starting to develop between Zedd and Cara.
  • Richard. One moment I really enjoyed in "Wizard" was when Richard decided to follow Zedd down into the breach and how he aged the more time he spent trying to rescue Zedd (as well as Darken Rahl's surprise at seeing him down there too). It was convenient that Zedd was able to quickly change Richard back, but I have to say Richard aged well. I didn't know exactly what to expect with "Fury" but it certainly wasn't his rage being connected back to his ancestor and a super army that existed at the time or that the Sword of Truth would take that rage to the next level. It was certainly an interesting direction to take the power he holds in, and I think it was an event to show Zedd that there is Rahl blood under all that is Richard Cypher and to question whether that is a danger to their quest.
  • Kahlan/Cara. These were really two episodes where Kahlan took a backseat for the most part. After her parts in "Broken" and "Touched" you can't really be that cross about it and I thought Cara really picked up the slack. I absolutely loved it in "Wizard" when Shota was doing her bragging about how Cara would have to go over there to stop Zedd since Wizard's magic was ineffective against Mord-Siths, I was waiting for that moment when Cara would turn the tables and strike her with the Agiel to point out that Witch's magic didn't work either. Great moment. I do miss the straps of her Mord-Sith outfit, I liked that look more than the cleavage-filled style she's gone with since the end of "Broken".

It's a little odd to me to have the show going on a little break only six episodes in, but I do understand the reasoning that during the holidays there is probably a less likely chance of syndication shows being watched and perhaps bumped for holiday themed content. So far in this first quarter of Seeker I'd have to say it's been just as fun as the first, but I'm actually surprised at how little Darken Rahl has been used after being so prominently featured in "Marked" & "Baneling". I also hope we see Jennsen sometime in S2 and I'd like to see Chase and his family again - any connections to Richard's hometown across the barrier in Hartland.
