emeraldstag: Sailor Moon's Usagi & Luna (harry potter)

It's been a consensus with those that I watch/talk Merlin with that this new season has been head and shoulders above the first season with the quality of stories. A consistent level of excitement that keeps me anticipating each subsequent episode, and really not looking forward to the fact that there's only 3 episodes left in the season before we have to wait another year for Merlin S3.

  • Arthur & Merlin. Perhaps one of the best things about S2 is how much closer these two characters have become and you start to see the line of servant and friend blur as someone in Arthur's position has few to rely on or confide in and Merlin is slowly becoming that person for him. The closeness helps with the humor in the show, Merlin snatching Arthur's food and hinting to Arthur being fat for the reason why he was taking the food from him. Also when Arthur saw him with Morgana's dress and not believing the flimsy excuse Merlin gave as doing something for Gaius, their relationship is becoming very fun to watch.
  • Merlin. This was mostly a Merlin-centric episode and for the first time I really didn't mind. Usually he's a character I haven't liked as most as some of the rest because of the lies he has to hide behind, but with Freya he was able to be himself and it was a lot more fun to watch this giddy, love-sick Merlin (Where's Morgana when you need her?!). As funny as Arthur seeing Merlin walking around with Morgana's dress, I thought Gwen catching Merlin raiding Morgana's wardrobe was even more hilarious. I did think it was sad how Merlin is starting to hide things from Gaius and lie straight to his face, I understand that he's trying to become more independent from the father figure in his life but Gaius is the one person he can go to and it just feels wrong.

I enjoyed Merlin & Freya's interaction but it was sad to watch Merlin struggle against the inevitability that existed with Freya being cursed and the monster attacks that kept occurring during the night. I was hoping that Merlin would seek help from someone that could help, and when he went into Morgana's chambers I had thought that what he was going to do. Maybe it's the romantic side in me but I am hoping that since Freya was sent out into the lake by Merlin that like the title of the episode, she becomes the Lady of the Lake that we are all familiar with in Arthur lore. Who would be better to protect Excalibur but someone that Merlin loves and trusts?
