Merlin 2.08 "Sins of the Father"

emeraldstagAfter last week's suspense-laden episode with very little Arthur or Morgana in it (Their moment of the season together by far has to be from Beauty and the Beast Part Two), I was happy to see that next up was rooted in the Pendragon family and the truth of the circumstances surrounding Arthur's birth.
I thought the episode was going fantastic until the very end when Merlin resorts to lying to Arthur to pull him back from the edge and not kill Uther. It reminds me of the typical typical Smallville tease where you think everything's going to change and then by the end it's the same status quo again. That disappointed me, but I should know better than to expect something like that to happen when clearly they are hoping for the show to have the same success Smallville has and last a long time and prolong the end as long as it still is a good show.
- Arthur & Merlin. There were a lot of fun moments between these two in Sins of the Father. The scene with Arthur escaping his room & Merlin smuggling the rope in (and how Merlin got the rope in the first place) and then the show of lowering Arthur and dropping him. Then the bonding around the campfire talking about Arthur not remembering his mom and Merlin barely remembering his Dad. Good stuff.
- Arthur & Uther. The sword fight was awesome between the two, but even before that the beginning of the confrontation when there was arguing. I enjoyed over protective Uther at the start of the episode and then him trying to get Arthur back in line while Arthur stood up to him. Sooo good. The swords were great as well, and I actually got chills when I saw Uther waiting for Merlin in Gaius' room to thank him for his aide in Uther's war against Magic.
- Morgana & Morgause. I'm entirely interested in the relationship we have here, in that Morgause is the half sister of Morgana. I'm thrilled that she helped Morgana with her night terrors because Gaius has been a real bastard to her intentional or not when it comes to helping her. Since she was smuggled out as a baby and only Morgana's half-sister, I have to wonder from which half and was she conceived in an affair of some sort? I can understand her hatred for Uther with his war against magic but I think there's more to her that perhaps Gaius knows something about.
