As far as I know Chuck has reached hiatus till 2011, so time to comment on the last two episodes. Some good, but mostly underwhelming.
The Subway product placement is over the top. Maybe it's obvious to me since I know Subway is a key sponsor of Chuck, but the last two episodes they have gone out of their way to have scenes where the characters describe in detail the contents of the sub they happen to be holding and then they rave about it. I really wish instead they kept the Froyo hideout and just changed it to Subway, or had commercials with the characters like they had those car/Olympics commercials during S3.
One of the best things about "vs Phase Three" was Sarah's rampage through Thailand where the natives kept referring to her as the angry giant blonde she-man & then Casey once he and Morgan showed up in Thailand was that waitress who recognized him and asked if he wanted his usual drink. Hilarious.
I miss Stephen Bartowski. I eagerly gobble up the little moments they have had this season, like old family photos or the voiceover when Ellie read the letter he left for her, and the little hints to their childhood with the questions on the laptop. He was such a great character and I wish he was still around. Much like Bryce Larkin, a character that should still be around if only in a recurring character status. With that said, I have to say I've been pretty disappointed with the entire Mary Bartowski/Frost storyline outside of the one gem being the outstanding Timothy Dalton as Volkov. Best villain of Chuck? So far I think so.
The laptop was a big disappointment, unless something is shown in future episodes I was hoping there would be some hint of what this new version of the intersect (3.0?4.0?) has in store for Chuck. If it just takes him back to the status quo I will be disappointed. And on that note, I am tired of how Awesome & Ellie are being used, and I think the whole Awesome wants to keep Ellie free from spying feels like it hurts their involvement and the show to the point where I am almost saying why are you two even on the show anymore? When the show is so heavily focused on spying and to have two characters so determined to not be a part of spying .. It doesn't work for me.
