Merlin 3.04 "Gwaine"
Oct. 2nd, 2010 07:22 pmSecond straight week not having to deal with Morgana being Evil and I am loving it. I can almost pretend that plot from Season 2 never happened and it's one big happy, dysfunctional Camelot family. That said, the villains plan in this episode was very predictable, from the duo killing the old man that supplied them the swords and crystals, to the duo killing the two knights to take their place in the melee and of course Gwaine sneaking his way into the melee as well and of course Gwaine not being able to stay in Camelot. The predictability didn't hurt my enjoyment though.
Something that I loved about this episode was when Gwaine was leaving. Particularly that last conversation with Arthur and Merlin, it just felt so Medieval about it and I loved it. And the melee, so medieval - it was nice to have Merlin go back to the more fun roots of the show.
I have to say Merlin does a great job in its casting. Although I find this spelling of Gwaine a pain because I'm used to seeing Gawain due to reading Arthurian books previously. It was awesome when he jumped in to help Arthur and Merlin back at the tavern and again when he bailed out Merlin against the fake knights.
Some great Arthur/Merlin moments again in this episode, like their conversation to and in the tavern, and at the end of the show when they saw Gwaine talking to Gwen, hilarious. I know I might be in the minority but these one off episodes are a lot more fun than Evil Morgana with Morgause episodes.
