emeraldstagWith no more new Legend of the Seeker episodes on the horizon, Merlin is left standing as my sole source of fantasy television.
Even though season two was a step-up in consistency with quality episodes, one thing I disliked about the season was how Morgana was treated by Merlin, being left to think she was alone in her magic problems and essentially leaving her susceptible to Morgause's evil ways. Now after the season two finale we find Morgana deep in hatred and evil, and I hate it. Those evil looks she gives when no one is looking looks so unnatural on her face, and I only wish Merlin had chosen Morgana as the person to confide in and how that would have changed things.
Also Merlin seems to have revisionist history when it comes to Morgana. "I never should have trusted her." Really? Merlin? When did you trust Morgana? If you did you would have told her your secret and bonded under being both magic powered beings and could have influenced Morgana to seek goodwill instead.
I don't get the purpose of the Dragon, outside of being a source of magic that can come in and save Merlin's butt so that he isn't made overly powerful too soon. That said, I did enjoy when Merlin had to call on the Dragon to save him and how it must obey him as a dragonlord.
I still have no interest in Gwen or the Arthur/Gwen ship. I'm not fond of Gwen as the handmaiden/servant and now that Morgana is not a genuine friend anymore I wonder how they will find scenes to put Gwen in. With Morgana clearly on the evil path, there really isn't any romantic situations developing on the show. It's an aspect missing and if we are to rely on Arthur/Gwen for that, it's going to be a long season three.
