Week of May 5:
Best - (DC COMICS) Batman & Robin #12 - I have to admit this pick was more of a result of an average week than it being a spectacular issue. I'm a bit tired of the whole Black Glove storyline and Bruce's imminent return, but Morrison does write a great relationship between Dick & Damian along with including a villain with stronger ties to Dick than the Batman mantle with Deathstroke. I'll admit that I was wondering if Sexton was going to be Bruce or related in some way and didn't expect it to be the Joker, but really it didn't add much impact to the story outside feeling glad that Dick had figured it out.
Worst - (DC COMICS) JSA All Stars #6 - I'm trying to ride this series out for at least a year's worth of issues but I have to say they aren't making it easy for me. I have not liked the art style at all and at times it even looks rushed with characters having no pupils at all. The story hasn't been that great but I'm not exactly a JSA scholar outside of Geoff Johns run so while I might not like the whole Stargirl/Atom Smasher relations maybe that's something a hardcore JSA fan enjoys. I think we can all agree that Magog's departure from the team is a welcome sight and I'm hoping the story turns around as a result.

Week of May 12:
Best - (MARVEL) Avengers Initiative #35 - I remember having high hopes for this title when it was first announced. I expected it to go around and follow different teams created by the initiative with maybe each team getting a story arc. When that didn't happen, I was disappointed and around the middle of year 2 of the book I dropped it for awhile. I ended up returning to it in the last year seeing how Secret Invasion and Dark Reign affected the title and there were characters I became attached to: Tigra, Cloud 9, Hardball, Komodo, Gauntlet, Diamondback. I was happy that the title was able to become my favorite Avengers book to read every month and I'm hoping that I'll feel the same way with the next iteration, Avengers Academy.
Worst - (DC COMICS) Batgirl #10 - I don't like the Calculator. I don't like that he's put on the same level as Oracle. I don't like that apparently he knows what she looks like BUT CAN'T TAKE THAT INFORMATION TO FIND OUT WHO SHE IS WITH HIS EVIL "ELITE SKILLS". I haven't liked Detective Cage because I expect them to try to recreate a Jason Bard-like character for Barbara and even worse, I read comments from some fans that thought Stephanie was crushing on Cage. Of course DC has made Dick incapable of having a relationship and Tim "engaged" to Tam Fox so I shouldn't care and I try not to but. D:

Week of May 19:
Best - (DC COMICS) Justice League of America #45 - I have a soft spot for the second generation heroes, and I absolutely love that Jade has been brought back to life thanks to Brightest Day. I know Kyle has moved on with Soranik - and I absolutely love those two together - I never really shipped Jade with Kyle and am content to enjoy the possibilities that Jade may be a part of James Robinson's JLA for the foreseeable future. I do wish the art of JLA looked a bit more "polished/refined" but I have always been a fan of Bagley's consistency so I can live with the art. I enjoy reading a book with Dr. Light, Dick, Kara and Donna as JLA members (wish Starfire was still there) and while I can't stand Robinson for the Cry for Justice mini, JLA has been fun to read lately, something I haven't said since Meltzer left.
Worst - (MARVEL) X-Men Legacy #236 - Greg Land. His style is so glaring to me these days that I try to avoid his issues just so I don't have to deal with it, but since I'm into this X-Men event I read the issue without even knowing Land was drawing it until I opened it. Ugh. The story slowing down hasn't helped either, as well as the fact that now some of the mutants are feeling resentful of Hope. I was hoping for a great event starting out but now I'm worried where it will end up. I also miss the space mutants: Rachel Summers & Havok, Polaris, etc.

Week of May 26:
Best - (DC COMICS) Power Girl #12 - The last issue of the creative team's run, and they ended Power Girl like they began with solid art and a fun, entertaining story. I love Power Girl's relationship with Terra, the fun of meeting Terra's family, the entire page devoted to Power Girl debating what she should call her cat to Power Girl getting frustrated of two alien warriors bringing their disagreement to Earth. I will totally be collecting the trade of this run and I recommend it to everyone. I'll keep on the book to support the character but I have not exactly been wowed by Judd Winick although the artist coming aboard has a pretty look.
Worst - (DC COMICS) Teen Titans #83 - I don't know why I still read this book. Maybe it's that I keep hoping this series will turn around but with every new writer that comes on the book my expectations continue to lower but there always seems to be a lower level possible for the title. It feels forced that Superboy and Kid Flash was brought back to the series, and now they seem to be starting the process of tearing apart a wonderful relationship with Conner & Cassie now that Aquagirl seems to be interested in Conner and he doesn't seem to mind. Thankfully there was no sight of that Ravager backup which while I love the character, what they were doing with her was just terrible. I'm surprised they haven't thought to have Dick continue to mentor her/look out for her but I guess now that he's Batman most if not all of what he was doing as Nightwing is pushed to the back burner.
