Smallville 10.8 "Abandoned"
Nov. 12th, 2010 08:49 pmThe continual stream of guest stars have to be the highlight of S10 so far.
It was eery to see how much Teri Hatcher can still resemble herself from nearly 20 years ago when she was Lois Lane on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. I've always been a fan of her since that show and it's nice to see her again. Almost makes me wish I had gotten around to watching Desperate Housewives when it first premiered. That said I was disappointed at how small of a scene she was given, I was hoping Lois would be watching multiple videos.
The surprise had to be the unbelievable Fortress of Solitude "goodbye video" that played for Lois and Clark starring Jor-el & Lara. I still wish they hadn't recast Jor-El after Tom played him in "Relic" but then scenes like this wouldn't be possible, well they could but it would lead to a lot of confusing scenes for viewers not familiar with that S3 episode. It was fantastic to see Helen Slater again, as I really enjoyed her appearances in S7. I almost want to find a copy of that Supergirl movie to watch again.
Besides the eye-rolling decision Lois made to play family counselor, I really don't like the increased referring to Jor-El as Clark's father this season. It feels dismissive of Jonathan Kent who raised Clark for 15+ years. And I really don't like that Clois has been put on fast forward, it makes it hard to enjoy the characters when they are literally leaping through key relationship moments with every episode that passes.
I was so happy to have another episode without any mention of clone Alexander. And because everyone likes to spread rumor and speculate online (esp twitter & tumblr) I was spoiled to the fact that there would be some connection between Tess and the Luthors especially since she was in Cadmus with all of those Lex clones. I actually liked the idea that Tess was in fact the clone of Lionel's wife so when the revelation that she would be this universe's Lena Luthor I was a little underwhelmed. I do enjoy the fact that her first name is Lutessa, thus how Tess came to be and why if she went by her middle name that would be understandable. Also the fact that there was a S1 throwback (pointed out by Kryptonsite's twitter) that Tess' mom was in S1 "Crush".
