Smallville 9.10 "Disciple"
Jan. 29th, 2010 11:43 pmAfter ten weeks of hiatus, new episodes of Smallville returned to the air with an episode that didn't get much promo time if any at all compared to "Absolute Justice" the two hour JSA special coming next week. Did I expect a Green Arrow-centric episode to return on? No, I didn't, but unlike when Roulette aired I didn't mind as much this time around.
If there was a S10 I'd like for a more Justice League slant, and the way they could get away with a larger cast would be signing the actors to 6-12 episode contracts and splitting up the shows among them. Bring in Bart, Arthur, Victor, Zatanna, Martian Manhunter, along with Mia, filtered in amongst the main cast of Clark, Lois, Chloe, Oliver, Tess and whoever the villains are.
ETA: Almost forgot to mention how poor I thought the writing of the episode was. Especially noticeable when Chloe was attacked by Vordigan and when they heard the outside noise, he moved to leave and Chloe didn't call for help (which could have alerted Clark to zoom in since he was the one just outside) and then when Clark came in he didn't immediately chase after the villain once he knew Chloe was okay. Same thing happened at the beginning with Lois, why not duck behind the car and call anyone (Clark) for help? I know it was done for the story to move but it was just bad decisions especially the Chloe attack scene because Clark was right there. He wouldn't hear that something was wrong at Watchtower?
Next week is "Absolute Justice" and I can't wait! I have minor trepidation from what I've seen in that I hope there's not some cop out in explaining the existence of the heroes or Clark to them. Looking back I like Geoff Johns's S8 "Legion" episode but there were definitely some frustrating/awkward things when it came to fitting the overall season plot into it, although I liked the connection between Chloe & Clark was there. So we'll see, I'm interested to see how Geoff Johns writes Lois and Chloe in the same episode and if he has the same trouble the regular TV writers seem to have with those two characters coexisting in the same story.
- Lois. I wasn't as complaint heavy with her being sent to the hospital yet again because she wasn't the only one targeted/hurt by Vordigan. All the talk about PDA between her & Clark seemed to bring the focus to the increasing amount of PDA now that they're "kinda" a couple. I get worried with how much of a focus the romance aspect of the relationship or rescue the damsel seem to take with the episodes. Not seeing a lot of investigating journalism going on, and outside of Clark being at the desk a few times he never seems to do any DP work onscreen. A lot of the freetime/fun aspects of the characters seem to have been pushed aside, you always see Lois at work, and uh. when's the last time she and Chloe were onscreen together. outside of Pandora that doesn't count. lol. I miss the Talon and the Torch places where the characters would just hang out.
- Mia. I'm becoming a big fan of the character and I truly hope if there is a S10 that they make her a show regular. A) The cast has gotten pretty small compared to previous seasons. B) That last conversation with Oliver really gave me Batman/Robin vibes in her being the lighthearted sidekick to his current dark state. C) It would be nice to have someone else outside of Lois that doesn't know Clark's abilities.
