Merlin 2.13 "The Last Dragonlord"
Dec. 21st, 2009 12:20 pmMerlin will return ... in what? 9 months? Grr, that is the most frustrating thing to hear (although I am glad another season is being made) after a season that stepped up the level of excitement and entertainment from the very rough first season that I struggled through this summer. So that made watching this season finale a bittersweet moment.
Some have said this was the best episode of the season. I won't go that far. It was good, another solid effort, but seeing the same things happen, Merlin showing mercy, Arthur being knocked out (is he the Lois Lane of Merlin?) so Merlin's feats would be unseen. I desperately hope that somehow Morgana can come back to Camelot but I fear that the stories that were possible with her are forever gone and she is now a part of the other side. I would've liked her to be the one to have discovered Merlin's secret, and I wouldn't be surprised if she does still but it won't have the same kind of story possibilities. There's really nothing else to hope for, the cast is so small not much can happen romance wise. It's puzzling to say the least what path they will go for Season 3, I hope the trend continues of entertaining episodes though, that would be nice.
- Merlin. Something that had been bugging me about Merlin was how there were no cameos by his mother this season. Meeting his father made up for that, but I think anyone who was watching the episode knew things weren't going to be happily ever after at all. Also you could predict that Merlin would show mercy to the dragon, just like he did to Mordred, and we'll see if that comes back to bite him in the end. Also you had the predictable moment of Arthur being knocked out so no one is around to witness Merlin's unleashing his Dragonlord controls over the great dragon.Typical.
- Morgana. Fail. Apparently they're not missing her that much. She's only mentioned once, by Gaius (the guy who doesn't think he treated her badly) in a badly veiled comment to Gwen asking if she was missing her knowing she was worried about Arthur.
- Gaius. He's starting to look a tad old these days, and for a second I was wondering if we were going to see a Legend of the Seeker parallel and have him reveal that he was Merlin's grandfather. XD It's strange that he's such an endearing character at times (mostly around Merlin) but I want to strangle him so for failing so badly in his handling (or non-handling) of Morgana. Yes, still bitter about that.
