Six Years as EmeraldStag

Today was my 6th LJversary. I can't believe it's been that long since the Harry Potter fandom (along with book 6) regenerated my interest in LJ enough that I scrapped the lame, mostly inactive individualistic journal I had started shortly after LJ opened its doors from its invite only policy to a much friendlier fandom based one with a new name and made so many new friends.

For the most part my activity (and yours) has started to grow beyond LJ as the recent years has seen a push for other social sites to connect on and share (Twitter/Tumblr) but LJ has stayed a regular part of my daily internet scan, and while it takes much less of my time than it once did, I probably get more joy when there's something on LJ that has me reading/responding.

I've said it before but milestones like this make me want to contribute more than I already do. I once did icons/wallpapers for a time but I just don't have the time to do so that I once did, and my reliable fic writing has slowed considerably but maybe I will start being a bit more open and spontaneous with my entries here (besides continued writing). I've loved what has come out off making this journal all those years ago.

Holidaze

Happy New Year All! Been meaning to make a post for a week now but somehow time slips away so I'm writing this earlier in the day. (ETA: And now posting late into the night. LOL.)

The Holidays were one big blur once again. When December started I thought I would be more productive but I always seem to forget how time consuming the holiday season is. Throw in the fact that I got a new PC for Christmas and the transition back from Mac to Windows pushed me into January before I knew it.

I have not regularly been a resolution person when it comes to the new year but it does give me an excuse to rededicate myself and steer my life in the direction I'd like it to be heading in so I am pushing myself to follow 3 big resolutions.

Get Fit - The older I get the harder it is to stay in shape when the average day does not lend itself to a lot of opportunities for activity. So far this week my effort to put aside a set amount of time to get some exercise has worked but other things (like late night writing) has suffered from it. It will take awhile to find time for everything.

Write, Write, Write - I almost think there are too many outlets for one's words and I feel I may have stretched myself too far (as I tend to do/very ambitious I can be) and as a result almost all of my for fun writing suffered the last few months as my workload intensified. Even my most reliable outlet Twitter can go in dry spells but I do think that direction is what will work here too. Short, fast, thoughts as they come posts will be my target here, but you know how I tend to ramble (like now). We'll see. More importantly will be my prose work, where I should be focusing my time and energy. Again I have some fic I'd like to continue and I hope to this year.

Be Social - I think I really need to work on my time management (which is LOL because I do try to schedule my day to fit everything in) but as what feels like a broken record, I just tend to lose track of many relationships because of lack of time/energy and I really want that to be different. Will it be different, I don't know but nothing will change if you don't try. I'd rather annoy you with constant reminders that I want to interact with you than giving off the idea that I don't care. Because I do.

P.S. Today was the birthday of the one and only sandoz_iscariot, a dear friend and fellow fanatic of ALL THE THINGS. Technically I tweeted you already but you can take credit for being the reason I finally posted on here again so I can wish you merriment on here as well. :)

P.P.S. I know I need to update all my icons here. Also need to find Photoshop since I'm back on windows. And it's like changing curtains, need to spruce things up here. Done with doing layouts, too damn time consuming. (And now I'm rambling ...)

June Journey

That Power Girl art was my desktop wallpaper in May! It's been awhile since I last had something comic related on my main desktop and this PG art I found either on DA originally or through Tumblr first but it's a great piece and my wall is only a bit of it. PG is one of my favorite underused comic book characters and I absolutely loved Palmiotti, Gray and Amanda Conner's run of her solo title. I can't stand Winick's alterations despite the pretty art and have stayed on only for the Basri art.

I promise May is my last dry writing month for awhile. This summer I'm going to be doubling down and that includes writing some fic. This summer's porn battle is a little later than usual coming in early August, so that gives me two good months to concentrate on some of my current ideas before I write some purely smut pieces for that gathering. It's June and that means ... IT'S MY BIRTHDAY MONTH. WOO. I honestly don't know how this came so quickly. Using TV as a time reference since it's a solid part of my daily life, I can practically remember early episodes from this last season airing in October that feel like they were on just a few weeks or so ago instead of 8 months ago. But I do not remember much if anything about my birthday last year and what surrounded it so maybe it has been a year already. Anyway, I am not alone in having a birthday this month and I share it with:

One of the reasons I love twitter is how many different directions my interest can take in a given month and my FollowFriday tweet for this month is a perfect example of this because about 80% of the people I was most active with are different from last month and that happens more often than not and something I've noticed since I started posting this on here.

Mayke It So

Prepping for the end of Smallville and I almost forgot to make a new month post for May. Above was my Mac's wallpaper for April, I usually try to stay away from close up shots because it almost feels like the person is staring back at you but I had not had a Superman related background since September and over a year since the last Smallville related image. Saying all that it would probably have worked for this month to celebrate the finale but I can't believe I forgot to think about that I've been so content this year with using randomization for my many desktops. Anyway, this was Erica back at the Batman Begins movie premiere nearly 6 years ago. How time flies.

April was another dry writing month which is depressing but I'll admit that my work load is starting to lighten now in May and with the Smallville finale buzz still going strong in my head I am feeling very creative-oriented of late. I hope to make up for the last two months with a solid second half of May. WRITING TOTAL: 0 words

Mighty March

Above was my PC's wallpaper for February, a crossover I'm sure many comic fans would like to see given the similarities of the two. From my recollection it was drawn by Terry Dodson (looks like his style anyway).

February was much busier than January and as a result I did not get much writing done the latter half of the month. I have outlined the next 3 chapters of His Girl Friday, and started dusting off Great Power, Great Responsibility & Great Love. Fast & February

Above was my mac's secondary monitor wallpaper, Atomic Betty. Always felt that show was underrated and under appreciated. And on my phone I had this batman wallpaper, another neat artwork I found on DeviantArt. Love that place.

Rededicated myself to writing and I got off to a good start in January. Restarted His Girl Friday and participated in Porn Battle XI which bleeded into February. Besides the Porn Battle entries that have been already posted, look forward to more HGF and maybe a completed one-shot or two this month. December Denial

2010 isn't coming to an end. *covers eyes & ears* LALALALALALALALALALA.

My November MBP's wallpaper was the "Ministry Six in the veil room" from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It is a screencap I color adjusted a long time ago and only now got around to using since Deathly Hallows premiered in the month I figured I'd go with an HP theme. And on that note for the DH premiere weekend I had this wallpaper on my Samsung Galaxy S.

November may be National Novel Writing Month, but it was just a month full of writing fail. I honestly don't know where the time went but literally every time I had free to write for NaNoWriMo, the time would pass by and I'd have nothing to show for it. The best thing to come out of the month was that I brainstormed a few new ideas worth pursuing and have a new title for my main project. I hope to return to my fanfic this month with the holidays giving me some time so we'll see. WRITING TOTAL: 142 words.

Now this is the time of year when we all like to do something nice for our friends. Some ask for addresses to send Holiday cards, but I don't because let's be honest I don't need the reality check of how little attention my posts get. Last year I think I tried writing a short fic for every friend's birthday but I ran out of steam near September so as much as I would like to I won't be writing for everyone for Christmas hell I can barely write for myself these days. So, what I'm planning to do this year for Christmas is a post where I write a short positive sentence or two to each friend on here. I haven't decided if I'll leave them anonymous to make it more fun and if I have the nerve I might even include a short personal video message to all uploaded to youtube.

Looking forward to seeing Tron and Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

August Already

How is it August? I'm barely processing the thoughts of enjoying my summer and back to school ads are already flooding TV.

My macbook desktop wallpaper for July was from a photoshoot with Emma Watson. It's been a slow growing crush on that girl over the last decade and now I just had her staring at me on my laptop for a month. LOL. It's been hard to adjust to a new wallpaper now I keep thinking it needs to be staring back.

This month starts my writing goal month of one thousand words a day, already because of a busy weekend I've had to delay the start until today but I'm hoping I can make it up over time (I'm feeling ambitious). Last month I didn't get any writing posted (Missed Porn Battle participation because I was so busy D:) but I did do some writing on some stories - most of it being fixing outlines and fleshing them out past a few chapters. Near the end of the month a PB prompt inspired me to get started on a one-shot that I hope to finish this month between Dick Grayson/Mary Jane Watson. WRITING TOTAL: 645 unposted.

Last month I almost feel like I neglected my journal here to post on Twitter or Tumblr and my new blog that I'm playing with but I'm going to make an effort to stay active here since many of my friends here I only have contact with through here. I have no plans to stop but since I moved my more drawn out rambles to the new blog I need to think up smaller, shorter, more interesting words to post here.

The busy July slowed down my push on icons, i'm hoping I can pick back up on those because I do have an announcement concerning icons but that will only happen if I can get through the clog of screencaps waiting to be transformed into icons.

So I'll end this post now before I ramble further with some birthday wishes to the August bunch! Quite a few friends with August birthdays (including one that has theirs today - I wonder who hmmm), so a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUG to

July Flyby

My macbook desktop wallpaper for June comes from an art piece I found on Deviant Art. Drawn by MarcioTakara, it's a group picture of the X-men. I am a fan of his drawing style and noticed his art because of his pieces on Justice League & Avengers.

There seems to be a trend developing in my writing in that every other month (FEB,APR,JUNE) have equated with no amount of writing produced. While early June was pretty free for writing that I didn't get done, the last three weeks have been hectic and it's been odd times of the day here in July that I'll find myself opening up docs and tweaking things. I'm been outlining chapters for several stories to the point where I'm almost ready to write, so I'm hoping July will be my most productive ficwise in awhile. And I hope I'm successful in that because in August I am setting myself an ambitious goal as I focus solely on a original story I've been piecing together for about five years now. WRITING TOTAL: 0 words

And on the note of writing, a reminder to anyone that has been thinking about participating in the bi-annual Porn Battle that I've written for two of the last three events: PROMPT SUBMISSION STARTS MONDAY!! We have through Thursday to get submissions in and then posting occurs from the 18th-25th. I have an unfinished smutty Chlark one-shot that I had originally started for the

dcu_freeforall Spring Porn Fest that I may convert for the Porn Battle. One-shots tend to be the only place I can contain my shippyness to only one ship for a story so I do want to submit one or two.

There are a lot of July birthdays happening around me with not only my friends here on livejournal but also offline. Unfortunately for them I only send out birthday wishes to my friends here on LJ, so a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUG TO:
