Watching The Chicago Code

I can't tell you how much I LOVE this show. I have always been a fan of procedural dramas like Law & Order, CSI, and NCIS but pure cop shows have been harder for me to get onto. NYPD Blue was before my time and too adult, and I never got into the Shield which was created by the same guy behind The Chicago Code. I started watching Blue Bloods this year but when they changed days during winter hiatus I stopped watching and honestly, I don't miss it. What makes this show so great is the focus on the characters, while still having a weekly "case" but not letting it be the only story of the episode.

Jennifer Beals is AMAZING. I don't know what corner of obscurity she was in after Flashdance (nearly 30 years ago O_O) but she has a wonderful presence on the screen and totally covers elegant and powerful at the same time as Superintendent Colvin. She is also gorgeous and I am developing a huge crush on her.

Alderman Gibbons is the best villain I've seen on TV in years, and you might almost say he's a realistic version of Lex Luthor in some ways. His use of manipulation puts the public in his favor and his image is of the best person in the world. His influence is strong throughout the entire city and when those that know of his less pure ways attempt to leverage him he gets something on them that puts them in his debt. Frustratingly evil.

And then the main partner cops, Wysocki and Evers are a great duo with perfect chemistry. Wysocki is a hard nosed detective that while he is a good detective struggles to trust (not keeping partners around before Evers who he still tries to get rid of) and is cheating on his young fiance with his ex-wife. Evers is the straight and narrow young up and coming cop eager to do the right thing but also to prove his worth and change his partner's mind about trust.

SO GOOD. I just hope Fox renews it.

Funny thing is, I think of The Bride before Flashdance. Probably my crush on Sting, or Clancy's wonderful turn in that movie. That's movies. I cannot see her in a picture now without seeing her as Bette Porter, from The L Word.
